1. Tell us about yourself.

2. What can you tell us about WinCo Foods?

Companies ask this question because they don’t just want someone who has applied for 100 jobs hoping to get an interview, therefore, you need to learn as much as you can about WinCo Foods.

  • WinCo is a chain of supermarkets based in Boise Idaho.
  • Ralph Ward and Bud Williams founded WinCo in 1967.
  • WInCo has stores in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington.
  • WinCo Foods is privately held (not traded on the stock market), and majority employee-owned.
  • The company reduces operating expenses by purchasing directly from manufacturers and farmers; operating basic, no-frills stores; not accepting credit cards, and not providing bagging service

3. Why do you want to work at WinCo?

Possible answers are

  • State you enjoy the product and the service you get at WinCo and because of this, you would be proud to represent him.
  • Mention you feel you have great communication skills which will allow you to work well with customers and other team members.

4. What hours can you work?

  • Try and be flexible when answering this question. The more relaxed you are with your hours, the better your chance of landing the job.
  • State that you understand if you need to work on weekends and holidays. 

5. Why should we hire you?

  • Have a look at the job description, and find the key skills and experience required for the job. Reassure the interviewer that you have the skills and experience that are required to do the position. Note your answer needs to demonstrate that you are the solution to the employer’s problem (a vacancy on their team), and that you are the best person for the role.

6. What is your greatest weakness?

  • You should not deny that you have a weakness or state strengths as a weakness (I am a perfectionist or I work too hard and neglect my friends and family). Instead, think of a weakness that is required but not critical for the job and state that as your weakness.
  • When you state your weakness make sure you include what you are doing to overcome that weakness. For example, I have a fear of public speaking and enrolled in a public speaking class to overcome my fear.

7. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience you have that directly correlate with the job you are applying for. Therefore, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

8. Why did you leave your last job?

  • Unfortunately, this can be a trick question as they may be looking for things you didn’t like in your last job.
  • The best answer is to say that you enjoyed everything about your last job, however, you feel that you have learned all you can in that role and are now looking for new challenges.

9. Do you have any questions for us?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions along the way. Asking questions during the interview is important because it adds rapport between you and the interviewer.

  • What do you like best about working here?
  • How would you describe your ideal candidate for this position?
  • What about this position is the most important?
  • How would you measure my success and what could I do to exceed your expectations?
