Company Information

6. What can you tell us about Under Armour?

About Under Armour

  • Under Armour is a sports equipment company that manufactures footwear, sports, and casual apparel.
  • The company was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank.
  • Plank played football in college and got tired of having to change out of the sweat-soaked T-shirts worn under his jersey. He noticed that his compression shorts worn during practice stayed dry. This inspired him to make a T-shirt using moisture-wicking synthetic fabric which ultimately led him to create Under Armour.
  • The company used the British spelling “armour” in the company name because the toll-free vanity number was still available for that version.
  • Under Armour is a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the symbol “UARM”
  • In 2006, Under Armour made the leap into footwear with the introduction of its first line of football cleats.
  • The company invented Charged Cotton which is a fabric that dries faster than regular cotton but feels just as soft and comfortable.
  • In 2013, Coldgear Infrared was introduced by Under Armour. Coldgear Infrared is a soft, thermo-conductive lining that absorbs and retains body heat, so athletes stay warmer longer with no extra weight or bulk.
  • Under Armour introduced Connected Footwear in 2016 which is a smart shoe to track your fitness goals.

Behavioral Interview Questions

11. Name a time you disagreed with a coworker or manager and what was the outcome?

It is only natural to have conflict at work.  What is important is how you and your colleague come up with a positive outcome.

For example, in my last job, I worked in retail. I was presenting inventory in the store differently than my manager told me as I felt my way was better for the customer.  My manager told me that the head office requires all stores to display inventory in a specific way.  I didn’t agree with him, however, he told me that a lot of studies are done to maximize sales.  I understand my mistake and now follow the layout as required by the head office.

12. Have you ever been in a situation where you had a big workload and felt overwhelmed? How did you deal with that?

Everyone gets overwhelmed from time to time.  What is important is how you deal with being overwhelmed.
