1. Can you tell us about yourself?

  • While it’s acceptable to discuss your hobbies and interests during an interview, it’s best to keep such discussions brief. Instead, prioritize discussing related work experience as it can help you stand out from the competition.

2. Why do you want to work at QuikTrip?

Possible answers are:

  • State you would like a job that keeps you active.
  • Mention you feel you have good communication skills and will enjoy working with customers.
  • Say you are impressed QuikTrip got the Great Place to Work Certification for 2023.
  • State you admire QuikTrip for giving back to the community. QuikTrip donates to, At-Risk Youth and Early Childhood Education, United Way, Safe Place, and Folds of Honor.

3. Why should I hire you?

  • Have a look at the job description, and find the key skills and experience required for the job. Reassure the interviewer that you have the skills and experience that are required to do the position. Note your answer needs to demonstrate that you are the solution to the employer’s problem (a vacancy on their team), and that you are the best person for the role.

4. What hours can you work?

  • Try and be flexible when answering this question. The more relaxed you are with your hours, the better your chance of landing the job.
  • State that you understand if you need to work on weekends and holidays.

5. What can you tell us about QuikTrip?

Interviews ask this question because they don’t want someone randomly applying to hundreds of jobs. The interviewer is looking for someone who wants to work at QuikTrip. Here are a few facts about the company.

  • QuikTrip is a chain of convenience stores and gas stations.
  • The company was founded in 1958 with headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
  • The first store was opened by Burt Holmes and Chester Cadieux.
  • QuikTrip has grown to a more than $11 billion company with 800+ stores in eleven states. 
  • QuikTrip offers QT Kitchens. Their menu consists of pizzas, pretzels, biscuits, breakfast scramble, breakfast burritos, subs, sandwiches, grilled cheese, tacos, flatbreads, quikshake, and specialty drinks.
  • The company also offers a grab-and-go menu which consists of sandwiches, donuts & pastries, roller grill (hot dogs, taquitos), breakfast sandwiches, cold drinks, and coffees.

Product Knowledge

6. How familiar are you with the products we offer in our store?

  • Allocate time to familiarize yourself with the range of products that QuikTrip offers. Additionally, ensure that you convey a genuine enthusiasm for the brand.

7. Can you describe a situation where you helped a customer find a specific product?

  • Describe a situation in which you not only assisted a customer in locating a specific product but also personally escorted the customer to the product’s exact location, rather than simply providing a general direction.

Customer Service Skills

8. How would you define excellent customer service?

  • The staff is friendly and always willing to help the customer find her needs.
  • Customers are not waiting in line for long periods at checkout.
  • The store has adequate inventory.

9. How would you deal with a difficult customer?

  • Listen and let the customer vent.
  • Show the customer you care.
  • Don’t blame the customer or the company.
  • Try to solve the problem or find someone who can.
  • Don’t make promises you can’t keep.

10. Can you provide an example of a time when you went above and beyond to assist a customer?

Customers love it when you go above and beyond for them, which, in turn, generates more business. Try to think of a time when you went above and beyond for a customer.

  1. When I was a server at a restaurant, we did not have a particular dessert. Luckily, the restaurant next door had it, and I was able to get it for them
  2. In my last job, I worked at a fast-food chain, and one day, there was a senior citizen at the restaurant who had finished his meal. It started to rain, and he was worried as he did not have an umbrella. Luckily, I had one, so I walked him to his car, sheltering him from the rain.

Time Management

11. QT can get busy. How do you prioritize tasks and handle multiple customers during peak hours?

  • State that you prioritize your tasks by addressing those with the highest priority first. In cases where two tasks share equal priority, you undertake the task that requires the least amount of time. Express that you are proactive in seeking assistance when it’s available, and that you are readily inclined to assist others during their busy periods.

12. Why did you leave your last job?

The only answer to this question is to say that you have learned all you can from your last job and are looking for new opportunities to learn and grow in your career.

Here is a recommended answer:

  • “I enjoyed my last job, however, I felt growth was minimal and I was no longer learning. I want to explore new challenges”.   

Don’t Say

  • Anything negative about your former boss/employer.
  • Complaints about the salary.
  • You left on bad terms.

13. How was your attendance in your last job?

  • Honesty is your best approach when answering this question as the interviewer may check your references.
  • Emphasize that you understand the importance of starting your shift on time.

14. If you could be one animal what would it be?

Interviewers ask this question because it may reveal more about your character, or see how you operate under stress.

When you state what animal you would be, state why.

Possible Answers are

  • Dogs to demonstrate loyalty
  • Ants are hard workers and team-players
  • Dolphins are smart
  • Elephants are strong
  • Gorilla is gentle but powerful, a good parent, and a good leader

15. Are you comfortable handling cash transactions and making change accurately?

  • We cannot guarantee specific math questions that will be asked during the QuikTrip Interview. One can only assume that the questions will involve tasks such as making change.

16. How would you handle a situation where you’ve given the incorrect change to a customer?

  • State you should attempt to prevent the customer from leaving and inform them that they have received incorrect change. Also, apologize to the customer for the mistake.

Questions to ask at the end of the interview

17. Do you have any questions for us?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions during the interview. Asking questions throughout the interview is important because it shows you have been paying attention and builds rapport with the interviewer.

  • What do you like best about working here?
  • How would you describe your ideal candidate for this position?
  • What about this position is the most important?
  • How would you measure my success and what could I do to exceed your expectations?
  • Which part of the position has the steepest learning curve? What can I do to get up to speed quickly?
  • What opportunities will I have to learn and grow?

What should I wear to my QuikTrip Interview?

  • If you are interviewing for an entry-level job then dress business casually. Remember you are customer-facing so try and hide any tattoos and limit the amount of body piercing you have.
  • Their dress code states they are picky about the appearance of the employees who wait on customers: no beards, goatees, visible tattoos, body or tongue piercing while on duty at QuikTrip.
  • Finally, if you are interviewing for a management position then it is best to dress formally.

QuikTrip Math Test

  • A good math test for a cashier interview should assess the candidate’s ability to perform the essential mathematical tasks required for the job accurately and efficiently. The test should be designed to be completed within a reasonable time frame and should reflect the types of calculations and scenarios that the cashier will encounter on a regular basis. Although we cannot guarantee what questions can be asked. Below are some questions to increase your confidence.
  • Count the change a customer should receive:
    • Item cost: $6.75
    • Amount paid: $20
  • If a cash register contains:
    • 15 $1 bills
    • 10 $5 bills
    • 8 $10 bills
    • 5 $20 bills
