State you feel you have strong communication skills which will allow you to work well with customers and other team members. Mention you would like a job that keeps you active and why being a cashier is important to Giant Eagle.

Example: “I would like to be a cashier because I love meeting new people and I have strong communication skills. These skills will allow me to work well with customers and other team members, as well as to stay active and enjoy the fast-paced position that a cashier offers. Explain that you are motivated by this role because it will help you pursue your career goals. For instance, if your goal is to be a pharmacist, explain how this role will prepare you for that. Additionally, you can mention that you are motivated by the opportunity to gain experience working with customers in a healthcare setting.

Example: “My career goal is to become a pharmacist, and I am motivated by the opportunity to work as a pharmacy technician and gain relevant experience. Additionally, I am driven by the chance to acquire valuable experience in a healthcare setting while working with customers. I believe I possess strong communication skills and a passion for helping people, which will enable me to interact effectively with both customers and co-workers”

Can you describe your experience in working with prescription medications and handling confidential patient information?

Tell the interviewer if you have experience with prescription medicines and patient confidentiality. If you don’t, you can mention any experience you have with handling confidential data. If you have no such experience, you can say that you understand and respect the importance of keeping customer information confidential.

Example: “In my previous job, I worked at a walk-in clinic where my responsibilities included registering patients for their next appointments and managing correspondence between the doctor and the patients. I maintained a strict protocol of securely storing patient records in a file cabinet. I always respected patient confidentiality by only discussing patient records with the patient and the doctor, ensuring that sensitive information remained private. How do you ensure accuracy when filling prescriptions or handling medication orders?

Pharmacy Technicians receive prescriptions and enter customer information into the computer system. State how careful you are to ensure accurate information is entered and that you double-check everything to avoid any errors.

Example: “Before proceeding with any prescription or medication order, I always make sure to check everything carefully. This means confirming the patient’s details, the name, dosage, and special instructions of the medication, and the healthcare professional who prescribed it. I always verify the customer’s name and ask the pharmacist if they want to meet them when delivering the prescription.”

How do you handle difficult or irate customers in a professional manner?

Dealing with difficult customers requires listening to them, showing empathy, avoiding blame, and trying to solve the problem or find someone who can.

Example: “In my last job, I worked at a hospital and a customer complained that they were waiting too long during registration. She told me her father was sick and needed to see a doctor quickly. I went to the supervisor and we were able to fast-track the patient during registration and find a doctor. Afterward, she thanked me for rectifying the situation.”

How familiar are you with pharmacy software systems and electronic health records (EHR)?

State your familiarity with pharmacy software and electronic health records. If you lack experience in these areas, say that you are a quick learner and give an example of when you mastered a computer system quickly.

Example: “Although I have not had the opportunity to use pharmaceutical software, I have experience with using software to register patients at a hospital where I worked before. I can learn new software quickly and easily without any problems.”
