Zara Interview Questions and Answers

1. Tell me about yourself?

  • While it’s acceptable to discuss your hobbies and interests during an interview, it’s best to keep such discussions brief. Instead, prioritize discussing related work experience as it can help you stand out from the competition.

2. What can you tell us about Zara?

About Zara

  • Zara is a clothing and accessories company located in Spain.
  • Zara has clothing for men, women, and children (Zara Kids), shoes, accessories, and Zara Home.
  • Amancio Ortega and Rosaí Mera founded the company in 1975.
  • Four keywords connected to the company’s mission are beauty, clarity, functionality, and sustainability.
  • Zara is one of the world’s largest international clothing companies, currently in 88 countries worldwide.
  • The company belongs to Inditex, the world’s largest distribution company.
  • Founder Amancio Ortega is known for his view of clothing as a perishable item, like food – something to be used and loved for a while, and then thrown away, not packed away in your closet.
  • The company has an animal welfare policy, which bans the use of fur, angora, and stocking products tested on animals.

3. Why do you want to work for Zara?

  • Let the interviewer know that you are passionate about fashion and interested in working for a country that cares not only about helping customers look their best, but also about creating responsible, sustainable fashion.
  • State that you would be proud to work for a company that is committed to sustainability. You believe in Zara’s steps to not send anything to landfills by 2020 and you are excited about their repair and reuse program, Closing the Loop, where customers can drop off used items at collection points for repair, resale, or recycle.
  • Talk about your commitment to excellence in customer service. Let the interviewer know that you believe it is the combination of fashionable clothing and a positive customer service experience that will bring the customer back, time and time again.
  • Emphasize your interest in keeping up with the rapidly changing world of fashion trends, which is something Zara is known for. Tell the interviewer that you love the company’s quick turnover of new stock, compared to other retail chains.

4. What hours can you work?

  • Try and be flexible when answering this question. The more relaxed you are with your hours, the better your chance of landing the job.
  • State that you understand if you need to work on weekends and holidays.

5. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience you have that directly correlate with the job you are applying for. Therefore, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

6. What is your greatest weakness?

  • You should not deny that you have a weakness or state strengths as a weakness (I am a perfectionist or I work too hard and neglect my friends and family). Instead, think of a weakness that is required but not critical for the job and state that as your weakness.
  • When you state your weakness make sure you include what you are doing to overcome that weakness. For example, I have a fear of public speaking and enrolled in a public speaking class to overcome my fear.

7. Why should we hire you?

  • Have a look at the job description, and find the key skills and experience required for the job. Reassure the interviewer that you have the skills and experience that are required to do the position. Note your answer needs to demonstrate that you are the solution to the employer’s problem (a vacancy on their team), and that you are the best person for the role.

8. Why did you leave your last job?

The only answer to this question is to say that you have learned all you can from your last job and are looking for new opportunities to learn and grow in your career.

Here is a recommended answer:

  • “I enjoyed my last job, however, I felt growth was minimal and I was no longer learning. I want to explore new challenges”.

Don’t Say

  • Anything negative about your former boss/employer.
  • Complaints about the salary.
  • You left on bad terms.

9. How would you define excellent customer service?

  • The staff is friendly and always willing to help the customer find her needs.
  • Customers are not waiting in line for long periods at checkout.
  • The store has adequate inventory.

10. How would you deal with an upset customer?

  • Listen and let the customer vent.
  • Show the customer you care.
  • Don’t blame the customer or the company.
  • Try to solve the problem or find someone who can.
  • Don’t make promises you can’t keep.

11. Do you have any questions for us?
