Interviewers ask this question because they want to find someone who wants to work at AT&T and not someone who randomly applies to companies.

  • AT&T is a multinational holding company known for communications, media, and advertising.
  • There are four main units at AT&T which are AT&T Communications, WarnerMedia, Xandr, and AT&T Latin America.
  • The head office is in Dallas TX.
  • AT&T stands for American Telephone and Telegraph Company.
  • In 2018, AT&T acquired WarnerMedia.
  • As of 2020, AT&T is ranked #9 on the Fortune 500 rankings of the largest United States corporations by total revenue.
Four Main Units at AT&T
  • AT&T Communications – includes consumer and business wireline telephony, AT&T Mobility, and consumer entertainment video services.
  • WarnerMedia – includes Turner Cable Television Networks, Warner Bros. film and television production, and HBO.
  • Xandr – consists of advertising and analytics.
  • AT&T Latin America – consists of wireless service in Mexico and video in Latin America and the Caribbean under the Vrio brand.

3. Why do you want to work here?

Possible Answers are:

  • State you want to grow your career in the telecommunications field and feel AT&T is a great place to do it. Say you admire AT&T from being the first to offer 5G network and device to never missing a dividend payment in over 30 years.
  • Mention you would be proud to work for a company that is so dedicated to helping the environment. Initiatives such as investing renewable technology, reducing emissions, and reducing waste.

4. Why should AT&T hire you?

  • Have a look at the job description and find the key skills and experience required for the job. Reassure the interviewer that you have the skills and experience required to do the position. Note your answer needs to demonstrate that you are the solution to the employer’s problem (a vacancy on their team), and you are the best person for the role.

Employers ask this question because they want to see your resiliency, determination on how you’ll handle challenges and setbacks.

  • Meeting deadlines, targets, or goals.

6. What do you like least about your current or last job?

  • Unfortunately, this can be a trick question as they may be looking for things you didn’t like in your last job.
  • The best answer is to say that you enjoyed everything about your last job, however, you feel that you have learned all you can in that role and are now looking for new challenges.

7. What are your salary expectations?

  • This is a stressful question because if you ask for too much, you will not get the job and if you ask for too little, they will gladly underpay you.
  • Be sure to research salary expectations for your role before you go into the interview. There are plenty of sites that will discuss salary ranges.
  • If you don’t know what to say, ask what the salary range is?  You can then counter with the high end of the range.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • Check out careers related to the communications industry or
  • There will be a lot of positions at AT&T. Why not look at their career website and find a job you can see yourself doing in five years. This is a great answer because it shows you have ambition and the company will want to retain its employees as training can be expensive if they have a high turnover rate.

9. Why is there a gap in your resume?

Honesty is the best approach when answering this question. Being honest about your situation gives the employer a sense of integrity and confidence.

Example

When you state your weakness make sure you say what you are doing to overcome that weakness. For example, I have a fear of public speaking and I have enrolled in a public speaking class to overcome my fear.

11. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that you have which directly correlate with the job you are applying for. Therefore review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.
